How long they can do this?
‘the harmony of strenght and art
They have a special bodybuilding workout and handstand
practice daily in the gym. To enlarge your muscles and increase
your strength: lift weights, and get lots of sleep-at least eight to
ten hours a night (day). On sunny days: running, swimming,
water-skiing, scuba diving, rock climbing and unicycling.
THE RIPPEL BROTHERS each measure over 180 centimeters
in height and weigh 90 kilograms (6 feet and 200 pounds). THE
RIPPEL BROTHERS take what's tough about hand-balancing to
a whole new level of difficulty and complexity. 'Look Viktor’s
arms: Like an elephant trunk.' Ferenc is proud of his brother's
physical accomplishments - so much so that, for a reporter, he
offers to get a measuring tape to check Viktor's dimensions. His
biceps are 17 (45cm) inches around and his neck is 18 and a
half inches (54cm), Ferenc is about an half inch smaller in both
departments.
THE RIPPEL BROTHERS eat everything but mostly Goulash,
and sweeties. Also, they eat a healthy diet emphasizing proteins
and amino acids. Viktor supports Ferenc entire body weight -
with his head. "If he goes up pounds, it's harder for me- Viktor
Rippel said. I watch everything's he eats" (Boston Globe 1998)
Like many circus performers, the brothers grew up in the business.
Originally from Budapest, their parents were acrobats who
performed a "pirate" routine (Trio Cortez) in circuses and revues
throughout Europe. By the time Ferenc was two years old, his
parents had taught him to do somersault on a trampoline. Later the
boys went into gymnastics for six years, and then attended the
venerable State Artistic Institute of Hungary.THE RIPPEL
BROTHERS began competing at the age of four in sport-
gymnastics, a popular form of acrobatics. From 1982 to 1990, they
attended the renowned Hungarian Artist School, Hungarian State
Performing Arts Institute. After they graduate in the High School in
1990, they began developing a hand balancing routine in Russia,
what eventually made them perform around the world.
With 40 countries, around 10,000 shows and over 500 television
appearances to their credit, they can truly say that they have
traveled the world. They are a team act and work at it very
seriously. The many hours spent keeping in physical shape and
building their strength is incalculable. However, once on stage it
becomes apparent. They do possess almost super human
strength, but they have made it into an art form.
They promise another 10,000 show…
